Where do I even start with this one? Let’s start with the illustrator. Shinsuke Yoshitake is a picture book author/illustrator who has been translated into English for a few years now. I had The Boring Book for my kids and it was on frequent rotation during reading time. His books are funny, philosophical, and charmingly illustrated.
But this particular book is not necessarily for kids. It’s difficult to describe, but falls into the picture book for adults category – much like The Boy the Mole the Fox and the Horse only weirder? It’s about an old king who loves books and sends two of his subjects to go out and find stories about magical books. The stories they return with are hilarious, strange, magical, and surreal. Much like this book.
