I was so excited when I saw this book in my publisher catalogs – Jess Kidd flirted with the mystery genre with her 2020 novel Things in Jars, which also happened to be the first of her novels that I picked up. It was so weird, dark and so delightful. She’s fully embraced the genre with …
Where do I even start with this one? Let’s start with the illustrator. Shinsuke Yoshitake is a picture book author/illustrator who has been translated into English for a few years now. While this book fits into the “healing Japanese fiction” genre, this particular book doesn’t rely on magical realism. The stray cats don’t talk. There is no time travel. It’s just a book about lonely people finding …
This sweet little picture book is perfect for spooky season and beyond! The grumpy ghost lives in the attic alone and really prefers it that way. The book that inspired the Studio Ghibli movie, “Spirited Away,” available for the first time in English! This is a classic Japanese novel by the author of Temple Alley Summer and The House on the Lost Cape — two books that I’ve read with my kids and absolutely loved. –Becky, Ridgecrest Books, Shoreline, WA Find a fantastic read-together …
Antiquarian bookseller and author of the nonfiction book Once Upon a Tome, Oliver Darkshire (if that’s not his real name, props to him for coming up with the best pseudonym of all time for an antiquarian bookseller and fantasy author) has written a cozy fantasy about a bored housewife who comes across a book of magic …
