Joseph Eckert’s The Traveler is the science fictional story of a man out of step with time. Every day, at 7:52 AM, Scott Treder slips forward in time. At first it is only twenty-four hours—one day—but the next time it happens, he slips two days. Then, four. And, well, you can see where this goes. And while Scott is trying to figure out how to make it through what is—from his perspective—a really terrible week, the rest of the world passes him by. Except for his son, Lyle, who dedicates his life to figuring out what is happening to his father. The Traveler is about family—father and son, specifically—against a backdrop of some impressive world-building and future extrapolation.
