From Danielle, the owner of Ada’s Technical Books in Seattle, WA:
1. We are almost completely sold out of all Ada’s branded merchandise at the store, but don’t worry! We’ve opened a short-run, print-on-demand shop where you can purchase a variety of branded merch. Shop here.
2. For our birthday week of June 1st through 6th, we will have cupcakes and affogatos for purchase and a new sale section activated every day! All of our books and retail are still 40% off, and each day, we will add a new category that is 60% off. Once a category is 60% off, it will remain 60% off until we close.
Here is the general timeline:
- June 1st: 60% off all Children’s and Middle Grade books
- June 2nd: 60% off all YA books
- June 3rd: 60% off all Retail Merchandise
- June 4th: 60% off all Fiction
- June 5th: 60% off EVERYTHING!
3. The last day for our regular Ada’s Staff is June 5th. We will be open as close to our regular hours until then. Please stop by and give them some love!
4. On our final day, June 6th, we will be going out in a similar way to how we started. David and I will be running the bar from 10am-12pm and we’d love to see you. The store will only be open those hours and we will not have any food from the kitchen. See you then!
I’ve had a lot of time to reflect on this journey over the last couple of months (honestly, the last couple of years) and I can say that I am leaving this chapter of my life so incredibly grateful for the community that has allowed me to follow this dream for the past 16 years. What a chapter it’s been!
There are so many memories that are stamped on my soul: our first author events, hosting monthly Hackerspace presentations, decorating the dreamy shop windows of the Loveless Building, the years after we moved to 15th and the rapid growth of the company, the transition to parenthood and how that permanently changed my relationship to work, the individuals that were at each re-invention or growth and how they all have left their mark, and so many, many more.
I have been thinking fondly of our first customers, the people that came into our first location and just “got it.” I remember thinking they were like adults in a candy shop and it was so thrilling to meet so many like-minded people. And now, thinking of our current staff and how long we’ve worked together (many folks have been here 10+ years!). It’s been a consistent joy to come to work with these curious, kind, and dedicated co-workers (both past and present). The people that I’ve had the privilege of getting to know will forever be the best memory of Ada’s for me.
I did a deep dive in our Flickr stream and found these gems. If you want enjoy glimpses of the last 16 years, you can find more photos here.
I know that this transition is hitting folks differently depending on their relationship with Ada’s. There have been so many kind messages of how important Ada’s is and has been to so many. For me, I feel that I’ve grown up here and I am so grateful to have had the privilege of witnessing the entire journey. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for the support and community. Here’s to the next chapter!
