Out Nov. 5 is Sy Montgomery’s next exploration of the natural world: What the Chicken Knows: A New Appreciation of the World’s Most Familiar Bird. Sy has had a flock of chickens for more than two decades, and during that time, she’s come to know them all: their weird walks, their distinctive calls, their awareness of other chickens (up to 100 different chickens!), and their ability to think about the future.
We’re not saying we should all go out and get some chickens and ask them to roll the bones for us. More that the world is big and mysterious and we’re part of a connected community, in our own weird, ka-kawing! way.
