I recently read a wonderful book, The Book Collectors by Delphine Minoui, which reminded me how fortunate we are to read whatever we choose to. It’s about a group of Syrian rebels who rescued books from their town’s rubble and built an underground library for the community. All the bombing and stress of war, and they found comfort in reading and sharing books with each other.
One of the rebels, Omar Abu Anas, who died in one of the bombings in 2016, said this: “Reading is a diversion, it keeps us alive. Reading reminds us we are human.”
Let’s all keep reading and sharing our favorites with family and friends!
