I’m books behind; Libba Bray has recently come out with Beauty Queens, and I haven’t read any of the Gemma Doyle trilogy. But I am awed by Going Bovine. It has changed my concept of what a YA novel can be. It unabashedly takes on life, death, the afterlife, sex, drugs, religion and how important it is to be the hero of your own story even as you are losing everything. When I grow up, I want to write like this!
