Though I just started reading Jean Thompson’s novel the other day, I am already enjoying her depiction of Midwestern values and what it meant to be an American during the 70’s. The novel also explores how family dynamics can complicate one’s desire to defy those limiting expectations and choose a path that will lead to individuality. I can’t wait to see where Thompson will take her characters!
