Seattle publisher Rose Alley Press has produced an anthology of work by 42 Northwest poets, Many Trails to the Summit, edited by David D. Horowitz. Included is this poem by Seattle writer Elizabeth Austen:
“Winter Garden”
Nothing to be done
but wait. That’s your whole job —
resting and waiting and by God
that’s difficult enough, giving up
everything you know
about resilience, persistence,
winning. Listen
when the signal comes—
and it always comes—
we will all turn over
and begin again, facing the wind
and the place in the clouds
where we last felt sun.
