One Nightstand

Heartbroke Bay

This first novel by (pseudonymous) Lynn D’Urso has me totally hooked. It takes place mostly in Alaska at the turn of the 20th century, with a young bride and her adventurous husband scrambling off to find their fortune at the end of the Gold Rush. The language is vivid, the personalities well-drawn, and the situations completely believable. If it holds up (I’m half-way thru) I will put it up there with Doig’s “Work Song,” among my favorites of the year.
