Carl Lennertz at HarperCollins calls The River Why by Montana’s David James Duncan “one of my favorite novels of all time.” Carl is, among other things, an editor at HarperCollins. He knows his books. We do, too, and we agree with Carl. In 1984 the independent booksellers of the Northwest gave Mr. Duncan an Award for writing one of the best books published in 1983. It’s still on many Northwest booksellers’ lists of their favorites. Check out the trailer. But can the film be as good as the book?
The Northwest Booksellers also gave Mr. Duncan an Award in 1993 for The Brothers K; and again in 2007, an Award for God Laughs and Plays. David James writes quite well.
