Kurtis and I visited Orca Books in Downtown Olympia, Washington late in the day at the end of our three-day bookstore tour last spring. What a fun stop! These booksellers are pouring their hearts into this store, and it really shows in the bursts of personality to be found around every corner of the store. From warehouse-column art work, to some very helpful and amusing shelf-talkers, to someone plunking away on a piano by the front window next to the check-out counter, Orca Books reeks of friendly chaos with a purpose: to have fun learning. Their latest wonderment is a six-second video on their blog, showing one of the “postcards in motion” that is now back in stock. Classic, in many ways. Did I mention that I love this store?
