Whenever I travel, I can’t resist bookstores, and of course, while I’m browsing, I’m always looking for books I know and love. Above, I visited Book Passage in San Francisco, right in the Ferry Building. The store is managed by my friend and former Pacific Northwest bookseller, Cheryl McKeon. On the store’s staff picks, I found a PNW author featured: Sherman Alexie!
Below, enjoy some armchair travel by visiting with local authors on bookshelves all around the world.
A dragon and a rocket on the sign for a science fiction bookshop in Stockholm? I couldn’t resist. Had to jettison a pair of shoes from my suitcase to make space for my purchases.
Found on the shelves in the Science Fiction bookshop in Stockholm, Sweden: Richelle Mead in her native tongue…
… and Richelle Mead in Swedish! (Although I guess the genre heading “Urban Fantasy” crosses language barriers.)
Spotted at The Tattered Cover in Denver: Garth Stein’s “The Art of Racing in the Rain” recommended by Maggie: “My favorite novel of 2010. Enzo is so wise.”
Jackie at The Tattered Cover recommends “Alif the Unseen:” “This book is as much a techno-adventure as it is a love story, a political commentary, and a glimpse into ancient histories and legends. An amazing debut novel I’d recommend to all.”
Also at the Tattered Cover: My husband’s book, discovered on the shelf in the computer section!
I found the friendly spines of beloved books by Seattle author Jennie Shortridge (flanking the horizontal books) at the Napa Bookmine in CA.
See that orange spine by “Olives, Lemons & Za’atar?” That’s “World Spice at Home” by Seattle’s Amanda Bevill and Julie Kramis Hearne. This taste of home was waiting for me in City Stacks Books & Coffee in Denver, CO.
Some people pose with beefeaters while they’re in London. I pose in front of bookshops. This was special because of a book on the bottom row of the display…
Look! A paperback of “All the Light We Cannot See!” Lucky British!
