This week, the Children’s Book Council announced the finalists for the ninth annual Children’s Choice Book Awards. Kid and teen readers will vote from March 8- April 25, 2016.
The Pacific Northwest was well-represented in the finalists:
Third to Fourth Grade Book of the Year:
- Monkey and Elephant and a Secret Birthday Surprise by Carole Lexa Schaefer (WA), illustrated by Galia Bernstein
- Winter (The Lunar Chronicles) by Marissa Meyer (WA)
Children’s Choice Debut Author:
- Victoria Jamieson (OR) for Roller Girl
- Kelly Jones (WA) for Unusual Chickens for the Exceptional Poultry Farmer
Teen Choice Debut Author (born and raised in PNW, even though he lives in Brooklyn now, and he set his novel in Seattle):
- Tommy Wallach for We All Looked Up
Children’s Choice Illustrator (lived in Seattle when his career as an illustrator kicked off:
- Mike Curato for Little Elliot, Big Family
