Every Wednesday, the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association publishes the regional bestseller list. On Thursdays, we celebrate Thursday Themes to shine a spotlight on some of the books from the list and give our brains a different way of thinking about books.
This week, we’re imaging a customer asking a bookseller about a book they’re interested in. The customer describes it: “There’s a woman on the cover…”
The bookseller might ask:
“Does it look like she’s fallen, like Alice in Wonderland, and you can really only see her legs and her arm?”
Famesick: A Memoir Lena Dunham (#4 Hardcover nonfiction)
“Are there maybe two women? Facing away and leaning into each other?”
The Lion Women of Tehran Marjan Kamali (#7 Paperback fiction)
“Is she walking away and holding a sword?”
The Last Contract of Isako Fonda Lee (#14 Paperback fiction)
“Is she kind of emerging from the sea and the clouds and her hair is blowing and seagulls are flying around her?”
My Name Is Emilia del Valle Isabel Allende (#15 Paperback fiction)
“Does it look like she’s standing on a hiking trail taking in the view of water and bridge?”
52 Weekends in the Pacific Northwest Kara Patajo (#11 Paperback nonfiction)
