Gift idea:
Buy a cookbook for a place someone wants to visit or has recently been to. You can learn a great deal about a place through its food. After going to Edinburgh this summer, I’m slowly working my way through this lovely new cookbook, Winter in the Highlands, and also dreaming of going to the Highlands someday. There’s also a lot here that I actually want to make, especially the Squash and Apple Soup and the Brussels Sprouts with Tahini.

If you’re too late to get this from Browser’s Bookshop or bookshop.org for holiday giving, you can prepay for a copy at your local store and then give a card with the cover that says “On its way for you…” (Some stores will even make the card for you!) Then the store can wrap it up for you after the holiday rush. Let’s think of it as a way to extend the holiday joy.
