Following the details of the white-collar crimes in the housing market in East New York, the author reveals the results of a well-meaning plan by President Johnson to help Black Americans buy their first homes – a plan that opened the door to bribery, mortgage scandal and eventually many deaths in the neighborhood that would come to be known as The Killing Fields.
