This is not a PNW-local organization, but The Word is a literary national nonprofit dedicated to promoting voices from underserved communities and diverse backgrounds.
Applications for their Editor-Writer Mentorships are open through Monday March 17, 2025.
Here are details from The Word:
Are you a writer, author, editor, bookseller, or book enthusiast?! We are so excited to announce that the 2025 Editor-Writer Applications are OPEN! Apply here.
This marks our 8th year running this program. The categories we are accepting applications for are picture book, middle grade, young adult, and adult romance! The application opened on Tuesday, February 18, and will close on Monday, March 17 at 11:59 pm US Denver/MT.
This program pairs upcoming writers from underrepresented groups with experienced book publishing editors! Our Editor-Mentors provide substantive feedback to help raise a strong manuscript to its best position for submission to potential agents and editors.
This is an opportunity to learn and gain knowledge from experienced acquiring editors. This program is free to apply due to the generosity of our volunteer editors and because of The Word’s commitment to building accessible pathways to publishing for marginalized and historically underrepresented communities.
Consider applying and/or helping us spread the word about this program. Additionally, if you are interested in being a reader for our program, you can fill out this volunteer form.
