Locally-owned and operated Molly Moon’s Seattle ice cream shops invited their customers to participate in a Social Justice Book Drive and promoted shopping for it with local, independently-owned bookstores in each of their scoop shop neighborhoods. Molly Moon’s will deliver donated books for kindergarten- 5th graders featuring Black, Indigenous, Asian, Latine/a/x, and other characters of color to schools in their neighborhoods. Queen Anne Book Company has featured the program on their website, together with a list of books celebrating BIPOC main characters.
The book drive wraps up February 28, 2025, but the alliance and overlap of ice cream lovers/ book lovers/ people supporting literacy/ people supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion have existed and will certainly continue.

We’re Thrilled to Announce the 2025 Social Justice Children’s Book Drive!
Happening from Monday, January 20th (MLK Day) through February 28th (Black History Month) in all molly moon’s scoop shops!
This year, we’re focused on collecting books for Kindergarten-5th grade readers in Japanese, Mandarin, Spanish, Hebrew and English. All donated books will benefit local schools and organizations, helping to build diverse and inclusive libraries that celebrate BIPOC voices and stories.
How You Can Participate
Bring a Book:
Drop off a children’s book written by a BIPOC author or featuring a BIPOC character in any of our scoop shops. Look for the book drive crate in each location!
Shop Local:
Support independent bookstores while selecting your donation. Check out these wonderful local options near our scoop shops:
