Every Wednesday, the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association publishes the regional bestseller list. On Thursdays, we celebrate Thursday Themes to shine a spotlight on some of the books from the list and give our brains a different way of thinking about books.
This week, were focusing on one title. It’s a classic and has been a bestseller for most weeks of my 26-year bookselling career. The book is Where the Wild Things Are, written and illustrated by Maurice Sendak, originally published in 1963. Serendipitously, several PNW booksellers and the PNBA Executive Director, Brian Juenemann, had the opportunity to attend the final night of the Denver Art Museum’s Wild Things: The Art of Maurice Sendak exhibit. The book was also mentioned in author and illustrator Brian Selznick’s closing keynote of this week’s American Booksellers Association Winter Institute, the bookseller conference.

Thank you, Harper Collins and the Maurice Sendak Foundation and the Sendak Estate for the special night.
