Brian Juenemann, the Executive Director of the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association (as well as 950+ booksellers around the country, including many from our region!) went to Cincinnati for the American Booksellers Association Winter Institute, an annual bookseller and publishing education conference hosted at different cities around the country.
Before he headed to the airport (across the river in Kentucky) to get back to Oregon, Brian made one important outing to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center.
“Black History Month is an opportunity to share stories of triumph, celebrate the perseverance of Black heritage and recognize the integral role of Black figures in our shared history,” said Woodrow Keown, Jr., president and COO of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. “That shared history is important because Black history is American history. These stories are part of our cultural fabric that deserve their place in our national tapestry all year, not just a single month.”
If you plan a visit to Cincinnati, we recommend you make time for this museum. It has a thoughtful and thought-provoking book selection in its shop.
We haven’t found a link for the museum shop online, but your local independent bookstore and bookshop.org can help you with copies of these books and more.
