I loved this beautiful, affirming collection of speculative fiction centering the disability experience.
Particular favorites were “A Balanced Breakfast,” by Eirik Gumeny, in which a cereal enthusiast accidentally summons a cosmic horror, “TheWarp and Weft of a Norse Villainesss,” by El Park, which reinterprets the Norse version of the three fates, and “The Rising Currents of Ocean Fire in My Blood,” by Bethy Wernert, about an autistic mermaid adopted by humans who wish to make her their “perfect” daughter.
My very favorite story of all was Nicola Griffith’s “Song of Bullfrogs, Cry of Geese,” a post-pandemic tale of the power of nature and community.
