This is one of my favorite fairy tale re-tellings! The daughter of a moneylender, Miryem has to take matters into her own hands when it becomes clear that her father isn’t very good at getting the money people owe him, and her family is paying for it. She is a great moneylender, so great that the fey in the forest near their home think she can actually spin silver into gold. And their king captures her to complete an impossible challenge because of it. Novik’s writing is wonderful, and this story had me on the edge of my seat up until the last moment.
