We might as well mention My Effin’ Life, the memoir of Gershon Eliezer Weinrib, aka Geddy Lee, the bass player and vocalist for iconic Canadian prog rock band Rush. My Effin’ Life details Rush’s nearly five-decade-long run, wherein they accumulated more consecutive gold and platinum records than any rock band after those two bands from the UK.
Sure, the Beatles were adorable and wrote perfect pop songs, and The Rolling Stones were the original bad boys of rock and roll, but Rush? They wrote a concept album after reading Ayn Rand’s Anthem. The power trio (Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson, and percussionist Neil Peart) wrote songs about books and trees, wrote music that inspired the whole “math rock” sub-genre, and were gloriously nerdy about their whole adventure. Recommended.
