The celebration of Independent Bookstore Day is a national thing, and in Seattle this year, it’s the kick-off to a spectacular 10-day challenge for bookstore lovers.
You don’t have to do a Passport Challenge– many communities’ bookstores are doing something like having prize drawings, giveaways with purchase, author visits, or treats, and all bookstores will enjoy your visit and good wishes for a happy Independent Bookstore Day on Saturday, April 29! Some stores have exclusive, limited edition items for sale. If you’re in Seattle between April 29- May 8, you can join in the Seattle Independent Bookstore Day Passport Challenge, whether you want to do the full 27-store experience or the 5-store mini challenge.
Here are details from the team of booksellers behind Seattle Independent Bookstore Day:
It’s almost time for Independent Bookstore Day 2023, and the Passport Challenge is back! Once again, local book (and bookstore) lovers will be challenged to visit all 27 participating Seattle-area independent bookstores, and this year they will have ten days to complete the challenge.
Here’s how it works:
Pick up a passport at any of the participating shops.
Visit every shop between April 29th and May 8th to get a passport stamp from each shop.
Turn in your completed passport at the last shop you visit by May 9th to receive a Bookstore Day Champion Stamp Card, good for a one-time 25% discount at each participating store and valid until April 26, 2024.
Those who don’t complete the full challenge but get their passport stamped at at least five participating stores during the ten-day period will receive a single 25%-off coupon, good at any of the participating stores.
