It was almost exactly a year ago that we decided we needed help around the shop and brought in a new contributor. No previous bookstore experience, but solid credentials, so we thought we’d take a chance. Best decision ever. We’re supported in ways we never anticipated, and we have the confidence to reach farther than we ever imagined we could. Not a day goes by without a steadying influence. That’s why today we want to publicly say a hearty thanks to . . . well, that’s the only problem. What name do we use? For that matter, what do we call our original, still indispensable hire?
We can’t decide, so we’re letting you have a say. That’s right, it’s a Ladder Naming Contest. What are the rules? There are no rules. Email us with your ideas, and when we see ones we like, we’ll start using them. If there’s enough competition and excitement, maybe we’ll come up with a prize. Bonus points for names that fit the job these ladders do in the bookstore, and for names that work well for pairs. George and Martha? Cathy and Heathcliff? Gertrude and Alice B.? Big Red and Grace Metalious? We know you can do better than that.
