In her first foray into Historical Romance, Adriana Herrera introduces us to Las Leonas–three Dominican best friends who travel to the 1889 Exposition Universelle in Paris. Luz Alana Heith-Benzan, the heiress of the title, has come to the Expo to find new markets for her rum. James “Evan” Evanston Sinclair is there to do much the same for his family’s whisky and to find a way to wrest control of the distillery from his father. After a minor contretemps over a display table, the two recognize that they can each offer the other something that will help them achieve their goals. To that end, they enter a marriage of convenience, meant only to last until they both have what they want. This being a Romance novel, though, it’s not long before feelings are caught, enemies revealed, and best-laid plans “gang aft agley”.
