It’s time for a Thursday Theme, where we shine a spotlight on some of the titles featured in this week’s Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association regional bestseller list.
As Christmas approaches and the supply chain continues to have issues, we notice that some books that are difficult to get still appear on the bestseller list. Maybe it’s because some stores stocked up on HUGE piles of them when they released. Or maybe it’s because flexible shoppers are willing to prepay for special orders that will arrive when the reprints are ready. We thought it’s a good reminder that if you have a particular title in mind, books are always worth the wait. At most independent bookstores, you can place a prepaid order to be on the list to have a book set aside for you as soon as it is available again. (Pro tip: If you’re ordering online from your bookstore and you are flexible and can wait until after the holidays for the actual book, write a note to that effect on your order; then your bookstore won’t have to contact you about the availability crunch– they can place your order without any delays.)
If you had something in mind that isn’t available at the moment, you can also ask your independent booksellers for recommendations to wrap immediately. Stores have wonderful selections of surprises waiting to be discovered. If you just can’t pick, you can’t go wrong with a gift card!
