Portland-based Salt & Straw Ice Cream created flavors for its pint of the month club to go with kids’ summer reading! Each of the five pints is inspired by a different Scholastic author’s book or series. One of the flavors, Fruit of the Gadoba Tree, comes from the Amulet series by WA author and illustrator Kazu Kibuishi. We haven’t had a chance to try it yet, but it sounds like a tropical fruit delight with passionfruit, mango, and lychee ingredients.
The Rad Reader pints can be shipped anywhere in the country. PNW readers and ice cream eaters can visit Salt & Straw scoop shops in Portland and Seattle.

Salt & Straw Ice Cream
NEW FLAVOR FRIDAY
Stories open up our world, the words and images acting as a portal ushering us into a new reality, allowing us to go anywhere. We thought: What if we embodied this spirit of wondrous adventure on the page as scoops of ice cream? Taking a cue from five of our favorite children’s authors, our Rad Readers Series churns dreamy flavors offering you an escape into a thrilling new journey. We found that, just like reading, you can learn anything through tasting, too. So come along, grab a spoon, and step into our library:
Goosebumps: Monster Blood is Back! (Author: R.L. Stine)
Geronimo Stilton & The Frosted Frozen Feast (Author: Geronimo Stilton)
Smile: Words & Pictures (Author: Raina Telgemeier)
Amulet: Fruit of the Gadoba Tree (Author: Kazu Kibuishi)
Twins: A Matching Pear w/ Twinnamon Swirl (Author: Varian Johnson & Shannon Wright)
