After its postponement, and then outright cancellation, in 2020, we are delighted to announce the return of Seattle Independent Bookstore Day (SIBD) with the 10-10-10 Challenge!
While things slowly return to a new normal, our bookstore community remains cautious about encouraging masses of revelers to visit our various stores on one single day. However, we are also eager to celebrate Indie Bookstore Day in a way that resembles our much beloved SIBD Challenge. To take into account the safety of our staff and customers, we’ve come up with a hybrid event: the 2021 10-10-10 SIBD Challenge.
Visit 10 of 21 participating bookstores (in person or virtually), make a purchase at each (no minimum purchase required), within 10 days (between April 24th and May 3rd), and you’ll receive a limited edition 2021 SIBD tote bag.
Purchases made through Bookshop, Hummingbird (ebooks & audiobooks), or Libro.FM (digital audiobooks) are valid, so long as the receipt indicates the purchase was affiliated with a participating bookstore. Entries can be submitted digitally or by mail; postmarked or received digitally by May 15th, and must be submitted in their entirety. Entries with multiple formats, or submissions, will not be considered. Unfortunately, we are unable to ship the tote bag prize internationally.
Please keep in mind that not all of our stores are operating as they did pre-pandemic. Hours may have changed, and many participating stores are offering online options. Please visit the SIBD page to learn more about how to “visit” your favorite Seattle area bookstores.
We are hopeful that the Seattle Independent Bookstore Day Challenge will return in its traditional format in 2022. But until then, we hope you enjoy this slight variation.

Was this a scam? I completed it and never received a tote bag. Also, when I go to their Facebook and Instagram pages, there is nothing posted after August 2020. Very disappointing…
Everyone is still eagerly awaiting their champion totes, but rest assured– this is not a scam! It’s just that printing and shipping seem to have taken longer than hoped. We hear that booksellers are working to prepare the mailings as soon as they can process them. It will be exciting to hear the grand total of champions for 2021.
We’ll post when we get our totes so you can know when they start rolling out. Hopefully you get yours soon! Thank you for supporting bookstores.
