To all my fans, friends, and family.
You’ve been amazing supporters of Enzo and his story for more than a decade and I want you to know how much I appreciate you all. I also want you to be among the first to see the trailer for the movie adaptation of The Art of Racing in the Rain. For ten long years, thousands of Enzo fans have believed that my book would make a great story for the silver screen. Now, it’s almost here. The movie will land in more than 2,000 theaters across the US on August 9, 2019. Save the date!
My wonderful publisher, Harper, will be issuing a movie tie-in edition of the novel, with a new cover featuring Enzo and Denny and a pretty sweet vintage Ferrari. If you haven’t read the book in a while, or want to share The Art of Racing in the Rain with all your friends so they can read it BEFORE the movie, grab your copy of the book, find a quiet corner, or sunny spot at the beach, or listen to it while you walk your dog or drive your car, and get reacquainted with Enzo, the pup we’ve come to know and love. Or, as they say in the movie trailer, “the dog who will show the world how to be human.”
We’ve been longtime fans. When the book was published, it was chosen by Pacific Northwest booksellers as a winner of a 2009 PNBA Book Award. Here’s what we said then:
The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein
In this, his third novel, Garth Stein gave himself the almost impossible task of telling his story from the perspective of the one participant whose faith in the protagonist can never be doubted: his dog. In so doing, Stein has created, in Enzo, an aging and surprisingly wise mutt, who is perhaps the most memorable narrator of the year.
