The sign is up and it’s [less than] two weeks until Books Around the Corner opens its doors. We have over $500 of donations through our Indiegogo Campaign and another few hundred received in donations at the Gresham Farmer’s Market. While we don’t want to give away ALL our surprises that we have in store for you we will share some information. We also want to give a special thanks to the Gresham Chamber of Commerce and the community. You avid readers and event goers! We are so grateful for your support and can’t wait to see you all opening weekend!
Books Around the Corner raffle at the Gresham Farmers Market
October 27th | Gresham Farmer’s Market
Stop by and meet the owner, Stephanie Rose, an avid reader, librarian, and writer, at the last Saturday of the Gresham Farmer’s Market. Tell us what you enjoy reading AND enter our raffle ($5 per ticket) to win a free book, wine tasting for two at Eola Hills Winery, $20 gift certificate at Eola Hills Winery, or one of two sets of four passes to OMSI!
November 2nd – 4th | Grand Opening Weekend
Come join us for our grand opening weekend! We will have an event every day and a few ongoing activities. We’ll also have some light refreshments on Friday November 2nd. If you want to see the first reveal of Books Around the Corner we hope you will make it to our ribbon cutting at approximately 9:15am. There will be an ongoing area to take a silly selfie with some fun photo props AND a book raffle that you can enter just by coming into the bookshop during opening weekend! Specific days and event details below!
FRIDAY November 2nd | Drop-In Origami Class with Yuki Origami
5:00 – 7:00pm
Celebrate our grand opening weekend with a free drop-in origami class and make book themed origami with instructor, Yuki Martin.
SATURDAY November 3rd | Local Author Party
Details on specific authors and times next week including signings and author talks!
SUNDAY November 4th | All Ages Storytime
11:30am – 12:00pm

Bookstore after-hours adventures await for kids’ favorite stuffed animals….
SUNDAY November 4th | Stuffed Animal Sleepover
ALL DAY EVENT (Drop off by 4:30pm)
Here’s how it works: Kids bring their favorite stuffed pal to our bookshop and leave their little buddy behind for the overnight bookshop party. Fun and silly photos of what these mischievous stuffed animals are doing will be posted on social media and also shared with the families who participate.
A recent study led by researcher Yoshihiro Okazaki of Okayama University, found that instilling a sense of magic and wonder is a necessary part of getting kids to fall in love with reading in the first place. What’s more, Okazaki says that sleepover programs increase reading interest. (After all, once the kids see their stuffed animals reading books, they want to read with them, too!)
Must drop off by 4:30pm!
