This was a book that I definitely judged by its title when I ordered it. A true tale about skydiving beavers??!! Really. And yes, REALLY!
This true tale took place in McCall, Idaho just after WWII. Up until then, before people “discovered” the natural beauty around McCall and populated it, it was an area home to many beaver. Beavers doing what beavers do, gnawing down trees, building dams, began to come into conflict with the recreational uses around McCall. What to do? One man had an idea: transplant the beavers to an area with fewer people, but where and how? Once the “where” was decided (it happened to be an area close to where I did my graduate research: Chamberlain Basin in what is now the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness Area), how was the next question. How about crating them and dropping them by parachute?! Now you have to read the book to find out the rest of the story!!! An amazing true tale of ingenuity. I loved it!

You can imagine how sad we were here at BookPeople of Moscow (in Idaho) when they shortened the original title “The Skydiving Beavers of Idaho” to its current one! But it’s a great story and we’re glad you found it!
