“Tired of the same old dystopian YA literature? Then this may be the perfect book for you! Rather than resorting to the usual trappings of oppressive governments and desolate wastelands, Neal Shusterman presents a future where disease, war, old age, and even death have been eliminated. The only uncertainty in life comes from the Scythes— the organization of a select few who are sanctioned to kill for population control. When two teens are taken on as apprentices, they find internal power struggles and corruption threaten to upend the compassion and neutrality of the Scythedom. In between the action and mystery, Shusterman explores death and its impact on life. With a fast-paced plot, complicated characters, a complex philosophy, and a unique premise, this novel is impossible to put down!”

Powell’s is a must go for me any time I am in Portland! An interesting idea for this book. I look forward to reading and recommending to my library peeps 🙂
I work at a middle school. Although I am not a librarian or media center coordinator, I read and recommend a lot of books. Shusterman is one of my top recommendations. This would be the BEST giveaway for them!!! After I read it, of course!!
Thanks, Mary and Patti for following NWBL and for jumping into our little contest. Via office floor coin drop, Patti is the winner this time around. Stay tuned, because we have some other sci-fi/fantasy type goodies to put up for grabs soon.
