This absolutely adorable picture book is written and illustrated by Jaime Temairik of Seattle. It’s about a pair of sister bears who clearly love one another (“…the girls love doing everything together, all of the time”) but have very different personalities. Alice is quiet and dependable (she’s the bear you’ll spot reading “Frosting-Nixon”); Lucy is full of energy and loves novelty (she’s the one bouncing off her seat). You can imagine that sharing a bed might not work out that well anymore. They offer to watch over the baker’s very fancy cake for a wedding, but all doesn’t go quite as planned.
I love the distinct characters of the sisters and the colorful, energetic illustrations. I also love knowing that the story is inspired by real-life sisters Lucy and Alice, the daughters of Jaime’s friend, author Martha Brockenbrough!
