The first nonfiction book by Portland novelist Pauls Toutonghi is on sale today, and Pauls will be touring the region starting tonight at Broadway Books.
Broadway Books’ launch event for Dog Gone: A Lost Pet’s Extraordinary Journey and the Family Who Brought Him Home will be an evening with a delightful duo, as a matter of fact! Meet The Brothers Toutonghi, as Pauls’ brother, Steve, joins Pauls from Seattle to share his debut novel, Join. What a talented family!
From Pauls’ blog post announcing the sale of the book: “[Dog Gone] tells the true story of the search for a lost, sick dog— on the Appalachian Trail— in 1998. The narrative follows one family as it tries desperately to find its dog, Gonker, before he dies of Addison’s Disease. And yes— the family is my own family, by extension. My wife’s family.”
Portland author Karen Karbo writes, “There are so many books and so many dogs in the world, but trust me when I say there are no books like Pauls Toutonghi’s magnificent Dog Gone and no dogs like those he brings to life in this tender, weird, sly, erudite tale of longing, loss, and redemption. A page turning adventure story, a meditation on how animals can bring out the best in humans, Dog Gone is the best book I’ve read in a long time.”
