This week’s great news that a ninth baby orca has been confirmed in Puget Sound inspired me to put together a list of orca-themed books.
O is for Orca: A Nature Alphabet Book Seattle press Sasquatch Books is publishing an updated, board book version of the beloved photographic Pacific Northwest alphabet picture book with images by Art Wolfe, text by Andrea Helman. The board book will be available in stores at the end of February, but you can preorder now with your favorite indie bookstore.
A to Z Mysteries: Operation Orca I have a young friend who is absolutely devouring this early chapter book series by Ron Roy. My buddy loves the four crime-solving protagonists, and the Pacific Northwest setting of this (Alaska) makes a Super Edition feel even more super. (I have no idea why the indiebound author bio is in French. If you want to read a description of this story [in English], click here.)
Of Orcas and Men: What Killer Whales Can Teach Us Fans of Barry Lopez and Thor Hanson will enjoy this well-written nonfiction– a blend of natural history, science, and reporting by Seattle author David Neiwert.
What is your favorite book featuring orcas?
Have run across this one several times—Granny’s Clan
