If you follow your favorite authors on facebook or twitter, you might have noticed a lot of buzz about the Indies First events happening throughout the region (even the world!) this Saturday, November 30.
Seattle kids’ author Kim Baker (Pickle) posted on facebook:
Are you shopping locally on Saturday? I’ll be a guest bookseller at Secret Garden Books (with Sherman Alexie, Bonny Becker, honorary local Peter Brown, Jaime Temairk, and more) AND at University Book Store (with Sherman + Cat Patrick, Patrick Flores-Scott, Nancy Pearl, and more!). Authors will be showing their support at indies all over Seattle, and the rest of the country. Please consider joining us, or finding a participating bookstore near you! #IndiesFirst http://www.indiebound.org/indies-first
Yes, twitter folks, that is an Indies First hashtag! It’s catching on in social media, but more importantly, Indies First events are getting more and more exciting in real life. Many stores have more than one author joining them, and many authors, like Kim Baker, Sherman Alexie, Carol Cassella, and Jennie Shortridge, are officially visiting more than one store.
As someone who works retail and therefore knows how working over Thanksgiving affects holiday plans, I want to say a hearty THANK YOU to all the authors who have volunteered to spend their holiday weekend helping bookstores and readers. It’s going to be spectacular!
