Face Out
The Lost Kingdom by Matthew Kirby
September 30, 2013

“I’ve read all he’s written and was over the moon to get my hands on his newest book.
The Lost Kingdom is full of adventure and amazing inventions. A young boy sets out on a mission in search of a mythical colony to align with against the French in 1750’s America. Aboard a flying ship full of brilliant philosophers, young Billy is thrown into intrigue and danger. I raced through this book and loved every minute of it. Besides being a fantastic storyteller, the reason I fall in love with Matthew Kirby’s books every time is his gift for creating full, compassionate, and real characters. They are believable and stay with me long after I’ve finished the last page. His characters deal with emotions and feelings that we all encounter in ways that give me pause.
“The Lost Kingdom is no exception. Billy wrestles with the realization that his father has flaws and prejudices that are impossible to look past; it’s tender and painful and sticks with you. This is a swashbuckling thrill ride riddled with moments that make the characters alive. I’m practically giddy with the fact that I get to meet him when he reads at our Lake Forest Park store on October 8th!”
