Cheers to Island Books’ Miriam Landis, who just published her second ballet-themed novel, Breaking Pointe. The Mercer Island Patch featured a nice profile about Landis this week, covering her interesting career, from professional ballerina with the Miami City Ballet to pre-med student, then novelist, ballet teacher and bookseller (next up: mom; Landis is pregnant with twins and due in September). Though published by what one of our favorite sales reps recently referred to as the-company-that-must-not-be-named (full disclosure: Landis worked at Amazon when she first moved to Seattle five years ago), both Breaking Pointe and it’s prequel, Girl in Motion, are for sale at Island Books. Landis works at the store as a web monkey and frequent contributor to its journal, Message in a Bottle. We’re lucky that she’ll be joining NWBL as a regular contributor when we re-launch the site in June.
