“Jane Kirkpatrick excels at telling the stories of strong women who make a contribution to history and who otherwise might be forgotten. Where Lilacs Still Bloom is the story of one such woman, a passionate gardener who created a slew of gorgeous, fragrant new lilac cultivars at a time women were not expected to have interests outside homemaking. I have visited Hulda Klager’s lovely and intoxicatingly fragrant garden in Woodland WA, and it was interesting to learn more about this woman who contributed so much. Hulda lived a long life and was witness to great happenings and tragedies, including the destruction visited on the region by the Vanport Flood. Where Lilacs Still Bloom is Kirkpatrick’s twenty-second book, her nineteenth novel. She has two lilacs from Hulda Klager’s garden.”—Deon, Sunriver Books & Music, Sunriver, OR .
