For the last couple of years I have been reading reviews of Paris-set mysteries by Cara Black. The other day while searching a bookstore for books by another author (not found), I came across Black’s books. I thought “Okay, now’s your chance!” I picked up a copy of book #1 in her Paris mysteries, Murder in the Marais, at a really good price. My wife and I spent about nine days in Paris last November so it’s really fun to see if I can place the locales she covers. Cara has about a dozen titles in her published bag of books. Cara’s website is www.carablack.com
The story has two time frames—Paris in Nazi-occupied France during WWII and in 1993 during the beginning days of the European Union. An unsolved murder from 1943 and a related murder in 1993 sets Aimee Leduc, private eye par excellence, on a quest for truth and justice. Nazi collaborators, French government figures and law enforcement officers lead Aimee on a twisting road. Just when you think you have it all figured out, twist and you’re on a new tangent.
I can’t wait until I find time to start on book 2 in the series. Have fun getting lost in Aimee & Cara’s Paris.
