We were blown away to read that Portland’s Multnomah County Library system has the second highest circulation in the country, behind only New York City. Almost 20 million items last year! Unfortunately, the red ribbon does nothing to alter the fact that two-thirds of the library’s operating budget is due to expire this spring. There’s work to be done, and the Friends of the Multnomah County Library are leading the effort. FOL is hosting a star-studded event in support of the first step in MCL preservation, ballot measure 26-125, which residents will vote on in May. “Library Lovers Unite” will feature the voices of Portland authors Ursula K. Le Guin, Molly Gloss, Kim Stafford, Jean M. Auel and Phillip Margolin on March 13 at The Old Church, 1422 SW 11th Ave. The event is free.
