The Awards Committee for the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association has announced its shortlist for the best 2011 books by Northwest authors. Out of 290 titles nominated this year, the nine booksellers chose these 12 books.
PNBA encourages its member stores and booksellers to give some extra attention to these titles and to email comments in support of personal favorites by Friday, November 25. The winners, a maximum of six books, will be decided by the committee in late December and announced in January.
Without further ado, here's the list:
• Birds of Paradise by Diana Abu-Jaber
• The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt
• West of Here by Jonathan Evision
• Ed King by David Guterson
• Feathers by Thor Hanson
• Maphead by Ken Jennings
• The Bled: Poems by Frances McCue
I love this list! Every book on it is a great one! Good job PNBA yet again!

The 2011 Holiday Book Guide published by NW Book Lovers has great ideas – some of which I plan to buy from my favorite bookstore – Watermark Book Co. located in Anacortes, Washington. I am currently reading The Crimson Petal and the White, which I just started and so far love. I just finished Straight Man by Richard Russo, which was also great. Independent Bookstores rock!! May they never go away. I’m looking forward to reading several on your lists. Thank you to all who do such a great job keeping us informed.
Cindy and Marci, thanks for playing! We’ll announce the winners in January. In the meantime, we hope you’ll continue to participate. Marci, if you like us on Facebook, you’ll get regular updates on what we’re posting. You can do that here: http://www.facebook.com/NWBookLovers
Great to have a list to work through. Currently I am reading The Will To Climb by Ed Viesturs, who lives on Bainbridge Island. My favorite bookstore is Rediscovered Books, Boise, Idaho, where the friendly employees always have a smile and suggestion for a good read.
I really liked the 2011 Holiday books Guide and got good ideas for books. I often go to Elliot Bay in Seattle to attend events and browse. I am currently reading Feathers by Thor Hanson. It is very well written and interesting.
