Next Wednesday (October 12), for the first time ever, the National Book Award finalists will be announced in the Northwest—live on Oregon Public Broadcasting’s morning radio program, Think Out Loud, and in front of a live audience at the new Literary Arts Center in Portland (Literary Arts is co-sponsor of the event). Past National Book Award winners and finalists will make the announcement by category and will discuss each of the newly honored books with David Miller, host of Think Out Loud. You can catch the program here, where it will be streamed live. Here’s the schedule.
Until then, check out the NBA predictions from Oregon literati. For fiction favorites, OPB polled author Patrick deWitt (The Sisters Brothers); Michael Keefe, the publicist at Annie Bloom’s Books in Portland and Kristen Thiel, an editor at Indigo Editing and Publications. For poetry faves, they asked poet Matthew Dickman; Lewis & Clark Assistant Professor Jerry Harp and St. Johns Booksellers owner Nena Rawdah. Go Oregon!
