I’m upset! I have just finished Death at the Chateau Bremont, and it was wonderful. Why am I upset? Because only one of the two murders was solved, and I have to wait until the next book is published to find out who the second killer is (hopefully). And there might just be a third murder (they call it a suicide, but I have my doubts). The story is set in Aix-en-Provence, with side trips to Cannes, Nice and Marseille. The Corsican and Russian Mafiosi are involved somehow. Brothers Etienne & Francois are found dead within days at their ancestral chateau near Aix-en-Provence. M. Verlaque is a judge in Aix, and Mlle Bonnet is his ex-ladyfriend (or is she?), who is a law professor. My only complaint, which occurs in a lot of books set outside this country, is with authors who assume I know ALL foreign idioms that they sprinkle throughout their stories. A glossary would be helpful. If you’re planning a trip to this part of France, enjoy. If you are not, then perhaps you should, at least through the words of M.L Longworth.
