Just the right balance of cultural insight and compelling plot come together in this satisfying novel. The young protagonist, an Olympic hopeful runner, is determined not to be drawn into the increasingly divisive politics of 1990’s Rwanda. As tensions mount and genocide looms ever closer, Jean Patrick continues to chase his dream but faces ever harder moral quandaries. I will definitely recommend this one to book groups when it comes out in early 2012.
