It’s almost always fun to read an interview with an author by someone who’s a huge fan, someone who’s done the homework and is psyched to meet the author and dig in to his or her work. At the Third Place Blog, Vladimir, who operates Third Places’s Espresso Book Machine, has a great interview with Charles Yu, whose cross-genre sci-fi novel, How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe, is now out in paperback from Vintage. Vlad describes HTLSIASFU as one of those books that, “when you start to talk to someone who’s read it, or is reading it, suddenly you end up finding all these different facets to the book. We talk about some of the narrative dynamics, we also talk about some of the world-building; there’s so much stuff that we can explore each time, it’s kind of prismatic, we all come up with a new thing.” Read what Yu has to say about crossing genres here.

Vlad is so good at this that I, who would rather eat glass than read most SF, now rather want to read Yu. Damned Vlad.
