Thanks to the good folks at 49 Writers in Alaska, we learned about this wonderful article in the New York Times from May 29, proselytizing the joys of catching a poet in “midcareer.” After using a great baseball analogy to describe what it’s like to read a seasoned poet, the Times highlights exactly five recent books by well-known poets. Look closely at the list: one poet from Alaska (Tom Sexton), one from Oregon (Dorianne Laux), and three of the books are published by two of our favorite NW publishers, two from Copper Canyon, and one from the University of Alaska Press. What’s not to like about this list!?!
Congratulations to all the poets and all these fine publishers.
