“What a book! Butler’s keen sense for sound and cadence strip punctuation to just what’s needed and that’s a beautiful feat that, in turn, helps create not only the strange space the characters inhabit and attempt to understand, but its color: gray, and gray’s feel, too. The book itself, its body, is a stunner, a bit oversized, printed on paper ranging white to gray with the black of brief, gauzy pictures that add to the story’s haunt. This, I think, is what I’ve been waiting for, even if I didn’t know it until now: Butler’s devotion to words and also form, to not only story but its vessel as art.”—Sarah N., Grass Roots Books & Music, Corvallis, OR
